WELCOME TO SEX WORKER COLLECTIVE NEWS PAGE.

Providing information on what’s happening with the Sex Worker Collective and information updates on the website.

The Collective believes in transparency, making information and resources available to our sex worker community. We don’t believe in organisations acting as gatekeepers or positioning themselves as the “experts” in an attempt to silence all other voices. We don’t believe there is only one peer-based organisation, rather we believe the more sex worker organisations, the better! All sex workers’ lived experiences and hard earnt knowledge is valid and valuable, no one organisation can speak for us all.

We fight for the right for all voices to be heard, all resources and information to be available easily and freely. We aren’t guarding State secrets, what we have we will share with you here.

WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING WITH SEX WORKER COLLECTIVE?

Sex Worker Collective launched in April 2020 and was contacted by a sex worker who was sent a threatening letter from a lawyer about this website. This meant the Collective was unable to move forward with the website or community engagement until obtaining legal advice. The Collective would like to say thank you to the organisation who helped us obtain pro-bono advice. This meant that Collective members did not have to engage in sex work during the lockdown which would be an illegal activity.

This week, an individual attempted to redirect one of the Collective’s domain names. Fortunately, we were able to stop the redirection by spending 90 minutes on the phone to our hosting service. The Collective member who is the custodian of the domain name experienced great distress that their privacy had been compromised and someone had attempted to steal from the Collective.

Having discovered the legal threat was baseless and after the attack on our website, our resolve was strengthened. We will now move forward with courage in hearts on our glorious mission to BE NICE TO SEX WORKERS. Australia is at a decision point, be nice to sex workers. It’s time!

Thank you from Sex Worker Collective

A big thank you to the people who've been helping the Sex Worker Collective move forward.

To the sex workers who've been providing ideas and content for this website, a big thank you.

To the organisation who has been providing support and legal contacts to members of Sex Worker Collective, a huge thank you.

To the lawyer who provided pro-bono legal advice to a sex worker when threats of legal action arose you have our eternal gratitude, You stopped her having to work illegally during the lockdown and the power of your help cannot be understated.

To the sex workers who've been there when multiple crisis hit and the world was falling apart, you are amazing.

To the sex workers who are doing what they can in their own way, your solidarity is unparalleled.

Many people who've been helping with the Collective, have remained completely anonymous. Providing support and practical assistance without asking for anything in return. Your grassroots action is phenomenal and we wish we could buy you all a beer. Thank you for being members of the Collective in your own way.
